Winter Wedding Photography at the Saddleworth Hotel | Ashleigh & Mark’s Wedding

I remember very distinctly Ashleigh coming up to my stand at the Tatton Wedding Show in January 2011 to ask whether I was available and willing to work on New Year’s Eve 2011 to shoot her and Mark’s wedding.  I immediately said yes as being a parent to a 3 year old, I have *no* social life most evenings;)and knew we wouldn’t have exciting plans for New Year’s Eve.

I met up with Ashleigh again a few weeks before her wedding – on a snowy Thursday in early December. She was so excited about the idea of a white wedding and I’m afraid the side of me that worries about logistical things (i.e. actually getting to the wedding in snow) rather hoped the snow would hold off, especially after the route I’d taken to Saddleworth had seemed quite narrow and hilly enough in the light snow we’d had.  Thankfully in the end (sorry Ashleigh) it did hold off, though we had rain instead. It just shows you can’t win them all;)

Online Gallery

The online gallery has been live for ages so I won’t worry about adding the link here.  If you are a friend and haven’t seen the photos yet, you can contact me or Ashleigh or Mark.

The Wedding Day

After worrying about snow for a 3 weeks, I went into the wedding day hoping for it to be dry and bright. I was half right. It was dry and bright; unfortunately it lasted until the time Ashleigh was due to leave her house and from that point it was a rather cold and rainy day – as Decembers traditionally are;)

As usual, things began properly for me with photographing the bride, bridesmaids and her family getting ready for the big day. I try not to get in the way too much and my modus operandi is to be quiet and try and let people forget I’m there.  This isn’t always that easy as sometimes rooms are fairly small and I’m not, but I think I do pretty well as hopefully the photos show..

I was really impressed when I found out that not only was Ashleigh going to be picked up by a wedding car sent by The Saddleworth Hotel itself, but that it was a beautiful Rolls Royce Phantom driven by Anthony (AJ), the owner of the Hotel.  It was the first time I’d known of an owner doing anything like this and it spoke volumes to me about the care and personal touch that he obviously wanted to show to the wedding party. I’ll add now that I got the chance to chat to AJ during the wedding breakfast and he was a really lovely guy with some great stories to tell:)

The Hotel itself is a really amazing venue. It has a wonderful mix of the traditional and the ultra modern – from the authentic wooden panelling and fabulous fireplace downstairs to the glass/marble and steel upper level of the ballroom.  I especially appreciated the under floor heating on a cold December day and the “stars” that came out in the ballroom ceiling at night – stunning.  Anyway, I hope to shoot another wedding there before long and next time, hopefully the rain and mist will hold off and I can get more photographs outside, in the gardens and of the stunning views. As it was I tried my best to coax guests and the bridal party outside but only Ashleigh and Mark were game.

After the brief time outside, it was time for the wedding breakfast and a much needed break for me until speeches. I got treated to a delicious meal prepared by the Saddleworth team and got to chat with AJ, and then soon it was time to cover the speeches – as can be seen below.

After the wedding breakfast there wasn’t long to wait until the evening really kicked off in style with the first dance under the “stars”. It was an amazing wedding, and a pleasure to cover:)

Winter Wedding Photography at Dunkenhalgh Hotel | Kerry & Tony’s Wedding

It’s been ages since Kerry & Antony’s wedding at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel – it was December 29th in fact – but I wanted to do a brief blog post about their wedding anyway, and post a few photographs.

I love photographing winter weddings whether in Lancashire or anywhere else. It’s often much more challenging than in the summer wedding season, due to weather, light, coldness outdoors – but they often have a really different vibe and because people are often in a festive mood anyway, they are a lot of fun. Kerry & Tony’s was no different.  As all their friends and family know, they are a really lovely, relaxed “normal” couple and really easy to work with.

Everything went pretty well on their day despite it being rather bitterly cold, and the rain coming and going rather more regularly than we’d have liked – but let’s be honest, in December in Lancashire if you get most of the day dry, you’re doing ok!!

I’m back at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Blackburn for another wedding in less than 2 weeks and am looking forward to it – it’s a lovely venue to work at with friendly, helpful and professional staff thaat are a credit to the Hotel.

Anyway – Kerry and Tony’s gallery has been online for ages, so please feel free to pester them for access. Otherwise, here are a small selection of photos.

New review :)

My thanks to Natalie, whose wedding to Mat (Paz) I photographed at the White Hall Hotel, Darwen, last year.  Natalie’s wedding is featured here.

Natalie Parrish – March 26, 2012 – 4:01 pm

We just wanted to say that Alex was brilliant from the moment we decided to book with him, until we collected our album!Nothing was too much trouble for him, he never showed that he was sick of me constantly asking questions leading up to the day and after ;o), and he went above and beyond to make sure the whole experience ran smoothly.

Lots of our guests commented on how brilliant he was on the day, and everyone who have seen our album were completly blown away, just as we were!  Some of my friends even want to re-marry so they can have Alex photograph it and have a album like ours! ;o)

So thank you again Alex, I would and have recommended you to anyone who is getting married!

I’ve still got a few dates left for 2012, so if you are getting married please don’t hesitate to get in touch before they are all gone!

Sylvia & Darius’s Wedding at Arley Hall, Cheshire

As per normal the gallery is online here, and the password is…. you don’t know? Ask the lovely bride and groom!;)

The Wedding

Before I start, I need to preface what follows by saying that I genuinely like all the brides and grooms I work with.  I think all my previous clients know this, and my wife certainly knows that occasionally I don’t take bookings even when I’m available if I feel we won’t be a good match…

However, sometimes as a wedding photographer, everything really does just “click”, and it was like that for me with the wedding of Sylvia & Darius. I’d known it should be a good day because we’d met up for a pre wedding shoot at Rivingon a few weeks before and I was really pleased with my photos, and I think it’s safe to say they loved them. So I was hopeful that the wedding day would go pretty well too.

I should also add that out of all the venues I’ve worked, I do absolutely LOVE Arley Hall & Gardens. It is to die for. The grounds are amazingly stunning, and house is beautiful, staff helpful…just a great, great wedding venue. As as a photographer I really do visit lots and lots of venues. Arley probably have no knowledge of me or my work, which is ok, I love them anyway!

Some details:

A week or two before the wedding Darius had spooked me by analysing why they liked my photography so much – and as I told him, I don’t really think about it too much, I just see something I like in my head and then get the photograph :)  But, Darius if you’d like to head to Tatton this weekend for the Wedding Show I’d love you to talk to people about my stuff because you’d do a great job!

Anyway…

For a late October wedding we really had a perfect day. The weather was ideal, and as the wedding was on a Monday, Arley was closed to visitors and we had the autumnal grounds all to ourselves. I could go on and on but I won’t. Hopefully the larger than normal selection of photos above will have done the talking!

Sylvia and Darius, I love you. Seriously. If I could take you to every wedding to pose for me I would. All day you both had smiles on your faces – you were a joy to work with, and your familes were amazing too – thank you for picking me as your photographer!

Laura & Andrew’s Wedding at Peckforton Castle

Before I start if friends and family would like to see the gallery (and haven’t already) you can click here and if you don’t know the password, ask Andrew or Laura:)  As usual there’s a sampling of photos from the big day below.

The Wedding

It is ages ago now that I had the honour to photograph the very fabulous wedding of Laura and Andrew at one of Cheshire’s very top venues, Peckforton Castle.  I’d met Andrew and Laura there a few months before, and we’d had a wander round exploring, me taking photographs,  while talking about where they’d like their wedding photographs taken. Andrew was especially keen on me capturing some of the distinctive architectural features, which made me happy as I’ve always loved architecture. Unfortunately however, man plans and fate decides otherwise, and as many know, Peckforton was the victim of a shocking arson attack that left some parts of the castle ruined – including some rooms we were to use. I’m pleased to say though that Laura and Andrew weren’t fazed and the great staff at Peckforton Casle obviously did an amazing job to ensure that the summer’s wedding went off without a hitch.

I know Andrew and Laura had a great day and I hope they’ll have a wonderfully happy life together!
